A locksmith in Vancouver costs $89 to $145 for a daytime home lockout, $145 to $195 after hours, $25 to $45 per cylinder to rekey a standard lock, and $180 to $420 for a replacement car key. Everest Locksmith quotes the total on the phone before dispatching, and the invoice matches the quote.

No. Most Metro Vancouver locksmiths add a $65 to $75 service call on top of the job. Everest quotes one number that already includes the callout, the travel inside the service area and the diagnosis, so the figure you agree on the phone is the figure on the invoice.

Because three things genuinely move it: the grade and condition of the hardware, whether the door or frame has already been forced, and the vehicle make on automotive work. All three are identified on the call, which is why we can commit to a total before dispatching rather than quoting a range at your door.

We stop and requote before doing anything further. Nothing gets added to the invoice after the fact. If a cylinder has failed internally, or a frame needs repair after a forced entry, you are told the cost and you decide before we continue.

Yes, and the difference is published. A daytime lockout is $89 to $145; the same job after hours, at a weekend or on a statutory holiday is $145 to $195. That is the total, quoted on the phone, with travel included. Nothing is added once a technician is on site.

No. The same rates apply in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, the North Shore, New Westminster, the Tri-Cities, Surrey, Delta, Langley, White Rock and UBC. Travel inside the service area is included and there is no postcode surcharge anywhere on that list.

No. Standard cylinders are picked or bypassed rather than drilled, so the lock and the door are left intact and nothing needs replacing. If a cylinder has already failed internally and drilling is genuinely the only route in, we quote the replacement before we start.

Wait somewhere safe and keep your phone reachable so the technician can call on arrival. Have your identification ready or work out who can confirm the address. Do not try a card, a coat hanger or a screwdriver: the most expensive lockouts we attend are the ones where a damaged cylinder turned a pick job into a replacement.

Yes, it is prioritised over a routine lockout, because an unsecured door is a live risk. Say so when you call. A Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolt supplied and fitted runs $140 to $260, and any damage to the door or frame is assessed and quoted separately rather than assumed.

Yes, and the suite door is usually the easy part. Lobby, parkade and common-area access has to be arranged through the concierge or the strata council, because we will not bypass a shared entry point without written authorisation from the strata corporation or its management company.

Rekey if the hardware is sound and the only problem is who holds a key, which is the case in most homes. Replace if the cylinder binds or grinds, or if a builder-grade deadbolt on a street-facing door needs upgrading. Rekeying costs $25 to $45 per cylinder; replacing costs $90 to $160 per door.

Yes. You have no way of knowing how many keys the previous owner cut or who still holds one: realtors, trades, cleaners, previous tenants, family. Rekeying every exterior door costs less than replacing a single lock and makes every existing key useless the same day.

Yes, and it is the most requested residential job we do. Every exterior cylinder is re-pinned to a single key, provided the locks share a keyway. A typical three-door home costs $75 to $135 for the whole set, with two keys included.

Yes, and it is the cheapest security decision you can make. New homes and townhomes are handed over on the construction keying, so the builder, the trades and anyone who held a site key can still open your door. Rekeying every exterior cylinder retires all of them the same day.

The owner or property manager has to approve a lock change on a rental in British Columbia. We will ask you to confirm that before starting, because changing a tenancy lock without the landlord knowing causes disputes under the Residential Tenancy Act. Landlords and property managers can book directly.

Master keying, access control and who has to authorise it.

A master key system costs from $300 to design and set up, plus $40 to $90 per cylinder, with restricted keyways at $80 to $150 per cylinder. The quote is written and itemised per opening so a strata council or a finance team can approve it without interpreting the line items.

Yes, and we ask for it every time. Suite doors belong to the owner and we act on their instruction. The lobby, mailroom, parkade gate and amenity rooms are common property under the Strata Property Act, and work there needs written authorisation from the strata corporation or its management company.

A restricted keyway uses a patented blank that cannot be cut at a hardware store, so keys can only be issued with written authorisation. It costs $80 to $150 per cylinder against $35 to $60 for a standard rekey. On any building where keys circulate, it is the difference between a key register that means something and a list of guesses.

Yes. Everest carries liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage, and issues a certificate of insurance on request before attending. Every technician is licensed under the Security Services Act and carries the card, which is the paperwork a property manager should hold before granting master-key access.

Yes. The key is originated from the VIN for $280 to $520, with no existing key needed, and the lost keys are then erased from the immobiliser so they stop working permanently. Photo ID plus registration or an insurance slip is required before any tooling comes out.

Usually, and the gap is widest when you have no working key. A dealership charges $300 to $700 and needs the vehicle on its forecourt, so you also pay for a tow and wait one to three days. Everest comes to the vehicle for $180 to $420 on most makes and finishes the same day.

Yes, and it is the cheapest decision in this list. A spare added while a working key still exists costs $150 to $260, because no immobiliser reset is needed. The same key after the last one is gone costs $280 to $520. If you are down to one key, a spare roughly halves what you would otherwise pay.

No. Everest is fully mobile and cuts and programmes keys wherever the vehicle is parked. The one exception is an underground parkade, where the signal our tooling needs can be blocked and the car may have to move up to the ramp. Mention it on the call and it is a two-minute problem rather than an aborted visit.

How to check us, and what we check before opening a door.

Yes. Every locksmith in British Columbia must hold a security worker licence under the Security Services Act, which requires a Locksmith Certificate of Qualification or documented supervised experience, plus fingerprinting and a criminal record check. Everest technicians are BC-licensed and carry the card on every call.

Our licence number is published on this site, and the province runs a public verification tool you can use in about a minute. Check it before we arrive rather than taking anyone at their word. Any locksmith who will not give you a licence number on the phone is not the one to call.

Photo identification plus one document linking you to the address: a lease, a utility bill, a property tax notice or ownership papers. For vehicles we ask for the registration or the insurance slip. This is the single check that stops a stranger having your locks opened or your car key copied.

Tell us on the call and we will work through it. A landlord, strata manager or building concierge who can confirm the tenancy works, as does a household member who can vouch for you, or a digital copy of a bill on your phone. What we cannot do is open a door for somebody who can show no connection to it at all.

Everything we fit carries a one-year warranty on parts and labour. If a cylinder binds, a strike sticks or a key stops turning cleanly within 365 days, call us and we return and correct it at no charge.
