This policy explains what personal information Everest Locksmith collects, why we collect it, how we look after it and what you can ask us to do with it. We are based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and we handle personal information in accordance with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

Who we are

Everest Locksmith is a mobile locksmith business operating across Vancouver and Metro Vancouver from 55 W Broadway #217, Vancouver, BC V5Y 1P1. For any question about this policy, or about information we hold on you, contact us at dispatch@everestlocksmith.ca or (604) 649-7255.

What we collect

  • When you call us: your name, phone number, the address or vehicle the work relates to, and what you have told us about the job.
  • When you use the form on this site: the name, contact details and message you enter. Form submissions are stored in this website’s database as well as being emailed to us.
  • When we carry out work: a record of the job, the address, the hardware fitted, the price charged and the payment method. Where identification is checked, we record that the check was made — we do not keep copies of your identity documents.
  • Automatically, when you browse: your IP address, browser type and pages visited, recorded by the website’s security software as part of normal server logging.

We do not ask for, and you should never send us, more information than the job requires. We do not collect payment card numbers: card payments are taken on a payment terminal and processed by our payment provider, not stored by us.

Why we collect it

  • To quote, schedule and carry out the work you have asked for.
  • To confirm that you are entitled to have a door, vehicle or building opened or rekeyed.
  • To invoice you and keep the accounting records the law requires us to keep.
  • To honour the warranty, which means being able to look up what we fitted and when.
  • To reply to enquiries and complaints.
  • To keep this website secure and working.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where it is necessary to do the work or run the business, and only as much as is needed. That can include our payment processor, our accountant, our insurer where a claim arises, and the service providers who host this website and its email. Where work is carried out for a strata corporation or a property management company, we may confirm to them that a job at a common-property door was completed.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, for example in response to a lawful order, or where it is necessary to investigate a suspected offence.

Cookies and this website

This website sets a small number of cookies. If you leave a comment or log in to the site, WordPress sets cookies to remember you. Security software may set a cookie to recognise a browser it has already checked. These are functional cookies: they are not used to build an advertising profile of you.

Some pages embed third-party content, such as a map showing our service area and a panel showing our public reviews. Where that happens, the third party providing the embed may set its own cookies and receive your IP address. You can block cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may then work less well.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become jobs are kept for up to twelve months and then deleted. Job and invoice records are kept for seven years, which is the period Canadian tax rules require for business records. Website security logs are kept for a short period and then overwritten automatically.

How we protect it

Access to job records is limited to the people who need it to do their work. The website runs over an encrypted connection, is kept up to date, and is protected by firewall and malware-scanning software. No system is perfect, and we do not claim otherwise; if a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify the people affected and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia as required.

Your rights

Under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act you can:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and how it has been used.
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
  • Withdraw consent to our using your information, subject to legal and contractual limits — for example, we must keep invoice records even if you ask us to stop contacting you.
  • Ask us to delete information we no longer have a reason to keep.

Write to dispatch@everestlocksmith.ca and we will respond within 30 days, as PIPA requires. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

Children

This website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the business or the law changes. The current version is always the one on this page, and the date below tells you when it last changed.
